African Spice Coffee
Fun fact: Our African "Chai" Spice Coffee was the first coffee we ever sold! It's inspired by a traditional Kenyan coffee drink known as "Kahawa Chungu." The East African coast lies on the Indian Ocean and was the center of the ancient spice trade. Traveling spice traders stopped in Kenya to relax and enjoy coffee mixed with spices.
We combine ground medium-roast coffee with fresh, flavorful spices -- cinnamon verum (also known as "true cinnamon," and markedly different from commonplace royal cinnamon), cardamom, and cloves -- sourced from small-holder farmers in Tanzania by our friends at Burlap and Barrel.
Burlap and Barrel has sourced spices for some of the world's best-known brands, including the iconic Eleven Madison Park in New York City.
Just add warm milk to create a comforting, familiar cold-weather drink. Or, blend with ice and chilled milk for a delicious frappe!
